Saalbach, Zell am See, Ramseiden bei Saalfelden, Austria

Starting position

Dancers form a single circle, holding hands around the Maypole, arms bent at the elbows, hands up. As music begins, dancers bow/curtsy, then walk in time to the music, swinging leg slightly before stepping. This same step is used throughout the dance until the waltz begins. When men have a hand free, it should be placed on the Traeger. When women have a hand free, it should be placed on the hip. Both men and women step with the left foot first at the beginning of each sequence.

Stop waltzing. Men walk to maypole and bring back two ribbons. The ribbons may be multicolored, or may alternate blue and white. Get two that are next to each other. If the ribbons are blue and white, give the white one to the woman. When the "ribbon winding" music begins, wind the ribbons, using a running waltz step. Couples are facing each other around the circle, and both start to their own right (women CW to the inside of the circle, men CCW to the outside), then alternate, weaving right and left around oncoming dancers. Ribbons should be raised and lowered in unison during each 4-measure sequence, and each dancer should pass the oncoming dancer at the same time.

Pattern: Waltz

When winding music ends or ribbons are fully wound around maypole, stop, drop ribbon, and waltz with nearest partner until music ends.
